This is Lesson 6 of my Holistic Balance E-Course. Today, we get to look back to the soul as we journey toward balance, and specifically the impact of meditation.
One of the most important things we can do for our souls is to meditate. During meditation, we are able to finally quiet our minds and become one with our souls. We need this quiet time to unite with our souls, so that we can discover the messages that come forth from within. Often, we are too harried and life gets in the way so we can’t really listen to what our souls tell us. That’s why it’s so important to set aside time to meditate, even if it is just for 5 minutes a day.
Transform Your Life With Meditation
One of the easiest ways I find to allow myself to melt into a meditative state is to sit comfortably with my back straight, close my eyes, allow my hands to rest palms up, and lightly join my thumb and index fingers together. When you do this, you should be able to feel swirling energy between your fingers and thumbs. Focus on that energy and the fascinating reality of what it means – that our whole bodies are composed of energy, as is everything else in the world, including people, animals, plants, thoughts, words and even solid objects.
When I do that, it unites me in oneness with the Universe because I know that we are all made of the same thing. When we are feeling that state of oneness, we are able to open our hearts and our awareness, so that we can begin to sense the soul within us. Focus on that energy while you take same deep breaths in and out of your nose and just let everything go.
This is a great exercise to try even if you only have 5 minutes but need to release some nerves or stress. When you are feeling oneness, you will not feel nervous or stressful. It is also a wonderful exercise to do for about 30 minutes while listening to soothing music that allows you to zone out (headphones really enhance the experience).
The Benefits of Meditation Outweigh the Difficulty
Some of you will have a lot of difficulty meditating at first if you are the kind of person who is restless. I am also that kind of person and it took a little while for me to be able to sit still for an extended period of time and not feel like I was just wasting time. The benefits of meditation, however, far outweigh the time it takes away from your day, so give yourself those benefits and give it a real try. You deserve it.

Exercises to Transform Your Life With Meditation
Begin to meditate even if only for 5 minutes.
- If you are a beginner, release the stress of feeling that you need to meditate a certain way or that you don’t know how. There is no right way. Your only goal is to turn your attention inward towards your soul and the oneness that unites you to this Universe.
- You can pray during meditation, you can be still and focus on the gap between your thoughts, you can even draw, write in a journal, or take a walk during meditation. Find the method that works for you.
- When thoughts come up, and they will, don’t panic thinking “see, I told you I couldn’t meditate!” Oftentimes thoughts will come up during meditation because we are finally allowing ourselves to stop and listen. Sometimes those thoughts are important for us to hear. But there are times when those thoughts are just mind chatter and that is when you want to acknowledge them and then release them.
Begin to build a library of music that you can listen to while meditating.
- Music can play a powerful role in helping you to release tension, focus on the now and enjoy your meditative process. There is a great selection of meditation music on Amazon and it’s great because you can listen to samples before making a purchase.
